The thing about AI

Is that humans already surrender so much agency. Indeed, if someone else will decide for us, we often will let them.

So what happens when AI has found the perfect partner match. Or the perfect sushi restaurant. Or the perfect car to fit your personality.

We might celebrate.

But we also lose a part of what makes us human.

Which is agency.

We don’t always make the right choice but there’s power in making it.

Born to be brave

Everyone is born creative. Can take chances. Is brave.

We just don’t stay that way.

We lose it day by day as we get older.

And then one day we are expected to take that creativity and become something else.

At best, an artist. At worst, a career.

The encore

Many bands will choose to opt out of the encore nowadays. The idea is to leave it all on stage. But really, its an excuse for bands are left in a no win situation. If they don’t do it, fans will leave feeling cheated. Having something taken away is indeed powerful.

The encore should be for the fans that brought it that night for a live show and for the band who gave it. And if one party wasn’t deserving then an encore should not happen.

I’m not sure when it became the standard to automatically expect an encore. But the the surprise is gone. And so is the chance to delight. It was a gift and expecting a gift always kills the gift itself.

By expecting it, we have ruined it. I do miss the chants of, “ONE MORE SONG!” Where a band couldn’t leave without the crowds permission.

Mother nature has no memory

Humans, on the other hand, keep score. We give nature a name. We act as if this entity will treat us the same way as we treat her.

Understanding that humans’ narrative doesn’t extend to others is essential.

A bee doesn’t get up and wonder if it should be a bee today. It’s just a bee and does what bees do. Humans are the complete opposite and unique in this manner.

We have choices of who we want to be, how we act, what we do, which stories to tell…
